Sunday Silence: The Star No One Wanted
Where to Watch/Listen: 2021 Runhappy Travers Stakes Week
Events / Travel
Last weekend saw Tripoli and Astronaut earn Breeders’ Cup berths during a spectacular Saturday at Del Mar that saw the track post a record handle for a non-Breeders’ Cup card. Del Mar will once again host a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” prep this Saturday, Aug. 28, but the main event this upcoming weekend will be at historic Saratoga Race Course during an Aug. 28 racecard that features three Challenge Series qualifiers plus one of the most prestigious races in the sport.
Saturday’s 152nd Runhappy Travers Stakes will be a key race in determining the year-end 3-year-old male championship, and the 1 ¼-mile “Mid-Summer Derby” is expected to draw Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets winner Essential Quality. Also at Saratoga, the Resorts World Casino Sword Dancer Stakes (Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf), Personal Ensign Stakes Presented by Lia Infiniti (Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff), and Ketel One Ballerina Stakes (Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint) all offer expenses-paid berths to the World Championships as part of the Challenge Series Presented by America’s Best Racing.
NYRA’s “Saratoga Live” will provide full coverage of Saratoga’s Aug. 28 card, which also includes three other graded stakes. The action begins on FS1 at 11:30 a.m. ET and switches to FS2 in the afternoon before moving to a nationwide broadcast on FOX from 5 p.m. ET to 6:30 p.m. ET that will showcase the Runhappy Travers. “Saratoga Live” will also show races from Saratoga on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday this coming week – check the below schedule for channels and air times.
Out at Del Mar, the Pat O’Brien Stakes on Aug. 28 offers a “Win and You’re In” berth to the Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. The Pat O’Brien and all other races from Del Mar will be broadcast live on TVG as part of their comprehensive coverage of the seaside Southern California track.
An extremely busy live streaming schedule begins Wednesday, Aug. 25, with “Five in Five” at noon ET. Hosted by the talented twosome of Dan Tordjman and Penelope Miller, “Five in Five” takes a fast-paced and funny look at anything and everything connected to the horse racing world, including ABR’s 2021 Fan Choice Awards. It can be viewed on ABR’s Facebook and Twitter channels.
On Thursday, Aug. 26, a new edition of “La Trifecta” airs at 8 p.m. ET. Presented en Espanol, the show is hosted by Darwin Vizcaya, Claudia Spadaro, and Annise Montplaisir. It airs on ABR’s Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube channels.

ABR's “Saratoga Saturdays” live streaming show also continues Aug. 28 with a show at 8:30 a.m. ET.
