How to Get to Belmont Park for the Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes is always one of the most exciting events on horse racing’s calendar, and this year is extra thrilling since a Triple Crown is on the line with Justify. Add in a sensational group of top races leading up to the main event, and you can bet that Belmont Park is the place to be on June 9.

Considering driving to the track? You may want to think again. While parking is available, it’s not cheap – the minimum price for getting a car into the Park on Belmont Stakes Saturday is $40. Thankfully, you have a lot of options when it comes to public transportation!

TRAIN

My personal favorite way to get to the track is to take the Belmont Park line of the Long Island Rail Road. It leaves directly from Penn Station in Manhattan and Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn and takes you right to the track. They have an enhanced schedule on Belmont Stakes day with trains running pretty much constantly, and there’s also service on every day that horses run at Belmont Park. The fares are very affordable, and (as a bonus) they include $1 off admission to the track excluding Belmont Stakes day. Note: When you’re buying your tickets from the kiosks, be sure to find Belmont Park under the “Deals and Getaways” section, not the normal LIRR station menu. Also, alcohol is not permitted on LIRR trains heading to Belmont Park, so leave the booze at home.

BUS/SUBWAY

Getting to Belmont Park by bus is really easy. The Q110 stops inside Belmont Park, and the Q2 will drop you off right outside the gates at the Hempstead Avenue and 225th Street stop.

Another great option is taking the subway to the bus. If you live near the subway, ride the F Train to 169th or 179th Street, then transfer to the N6 MTA Long Island Bus. If you want to go bus-to-bus, transfers to the N6 are available at the Jamaica Bus Terminal.

RIDESHARING

If you definitely want to take a car to Belmont Park, I recommend using ridesharing apps like Lyft, Curb, Arro, Juno, Via, Gett, or Uber. Ridesharing in this town gives you all the comfort of a car without the hassle of having to own and operate a car. Just remember to tip your driver!

OTHER

If you’re still not sure how you’ll get to Belmont Park on June 9, try downloading Citymapper. It’ll give you the fastest, easiest route to get to the track based on your current location in combinations of walking and public transportation. It’s a life- and time-saver!
