Speed Figures are a big part of the handicapping process. Equibase Speed Figures (ESF), for example, use algorithms combining each horse’s actual times with factors like track condition to indicate how fast a horse has been running in its past races. On STATS Race Lens, each horse’s career best speed figure is highlighted in green in its past performances; their second-highest ESF is in yellow. When you see a number inside a green circle, that represesnts the highest ESF of any horse in the race. While the numbers are a useful tool, you can’t make your decisions solely based on speed figures - consider them, but don’t ever become overly-reliant on speed figures.
