all in The Life

Trainer Lindsay Schultz’s first day at any racetrack was the 2006 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. She was a freshman at the University of Louisville in the Equine Industry Program, and Churchill Downs hosted the year-end championship event. Her friend (and later roommate) Liz Crow, who is now a bloodstock agent, invited her to go with her family.

At this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships, I saw Jessica Paquette everywhere I went. Sprinting from task to task, this handicapper, off-track Thoroughbred advocate, and broadcaster was a constant whirl at Keeneland, popping up in the paddock and on my social media feeds nearly simultaneously.

OwnerView announced Nov. 15 that 2022 New Owner of the Year, sponsored by 1/ST RACING, was a dead heat between Richard Dawson and Pat Kearney.

It has been quite a good week in Kentucky for the Mott family.

I have been working as a turf writer for a few years now, but long before my days at the keyboard, I was a horse-crazy kid growing up in a land of ardent college football fans. The few times I went to the racetrack were hours spent taking all of it in, absorbing every detail – the sights, the sounds, even the smells – for later, when it was all done, memories to sustain me until the next time.
