The domestic Road to the Breeders’ Cup schedule takes a break this upcoming weekend before picking up for a 2 ½-week run loaded with final “Win and You’re In” preps. But the important races continue Saturday as the focus shifts to Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pa., where two Grade 1 stakes worth $1 million apiece will bring together some of the top 3-year-olds in training to vie for divisional supremacy.

The Road to the Breeders’ Cup is in full swing during mid-September, and the action this week spans national boundaries as “Win and You’re In” preps will be held at two racetracks in the U.S. and one in Canada.

After a Labor Day weekend that saw stars emerge in the 2-year-old divisions and two veteran horses earn “Win and You’re In” berths to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, the focus of the racing world briefly shifts from storied venues in New York and California to hone in on a small rural track on the Kentucky-Tennessee state line that has risen in recent years to provide some of the most competitive and exciting racing in North America.

The upcoming holiday weekend in horse racing is annually one of the busiest on the calendar, and this year will be especially exciting as both Saratoga Race Course and Del Mar will have fans in attendance for the final days of their summer meets. Two Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” races are on tap, both set for Saturday, Sept. 4 at Saratoga, and important 2-year-old races will follow at both tracks on Sunday, Sept.

A cloudy, overcast day in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., could not dampen the spirits of those in attendance at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 28 for the 152nd Runhappy Travers Stakes, the marquee race of the meet and a key stakes in determining the year-end 3-year-old male championship.
