One of the biggest weeks of racing on the annual calendar has arrived, as Saratoga Race Course prepares for its marquee event of the summer meet on Saturday, Aug. 24. The 155th DraftKings Travers Stakes brings together several of the best 3-year-olds in training to compete for a $1.25 million purse and a great deal of prestige.

My last update saw Mr Nobility and I preparing for our first show on Aug. 5, a hunter/jumper show at a local barn nearby. It was meant to be a lovely little schooling show, only 10 minutes away, just a nice outing to see what kind of horse we are working with in the environment. The nice thing about these shows is that you can ship in and school over the jumps the day before, so it’s very friendly to green horses allowing them to see everything. Or so we thought…

Amplify Horse Racing has announced the launch of the Amplify Impact Campaign, a transformative initiative aimed at raising $1 million to engage youth across the nation with horse racing. As a pioneering force in promoting youth involvement through education, mentorship, and career pathways, the campaign will significantly extend Amplify’s reach and impact as the national youth arm of the Thoroughbred industry.

For the upcoming weekend in horse racing, the spotlight shifts north of the border to Woodbine for the 165th running of the King’s Plate Stakes. The first leg of Canada’s Triple Crown will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, as the anchor of a sensational day of racing at the Toronto track, enlisting 13 3-year-old Canadian-breds to compete at the classic 1 ¼-mile distance.

The time is ticking down to the Thoroughbred Makeover, and as a trainer you are under pressure to try and prepare your horse for the big event. Each of the horses I have taken to Kentucky has been at a different stage of training and experience.
