When I moved from the East Coast to Lexington in 2005 to pursue a career in Thoroughbred racing, I knew my wife and I would miss our family and friends but I had no idea how much we’d miss some of our favorite foods.

My wife is from Maryland and the sudden realization that no restaurants in Lexington serve crabs — because we were nowhere near saltwater — was especially harsh. I’ve since utilized this amazing crabcake recipe on many occasions to stem the tide until we can get back East to visit family.

Last week saw the passing of one of America’s most prolific and talented comedic actors of the past 30-plus years: Robin Williams.

Over the course of his three decades in show business, Williams was known as a stand-up comedian, a television actor, a character actor, and a feature film leading man in both comedies and dramas.

“The end of an era.” That phrase gets thrown around a little too often, but when Tom Durkin retires on August 31 after 43 years of calling the horse races at New York Racing Association tracks there will truly be a hole left in the heart of horse racing lovers nationwide.

Coaching Club American Oaks 1-2 finishers Stopchargingmaria and Unbridled Forever and the Delaware Oaks exacta of Fortune Pearl and Joint Return are four of the bettors' top choices in the 1 1/4-mile contest.
