A Farewell to Goldencents

It’s hard on your heart. From the moment they arrive, the clock starts ticking. Eventually, they will be leaving. Fillies grow up to be broodmares. Colts with promise continue on to become stallions standing at stud. In a barn, horses come and go as they are claimed, sold or retired. The grooms (and their families) often lavish love, especially when a horse tries so hard and touches the lives of so many.

Breeders’ Cup Diaries: Distaff Delights

My Breeders’ Cup Friday started with a bit of a surprise: after waking up every morning well before the crack of dawn, I decided to let myself sleep in a bit. Silly me: I forgot that I had a photographers’ meeting in the winner’s circle at 8:30 a.m. Thankfully, my internal alarm roused me at about 7 a.m. and after a fortuitous e-mail moment I got myself together and to the track in plenty of time.
