Thoroughbred names can be noble, inspiring, bland or downright hilarious. Read on to find 12 of the more humorous monikers humans have chosen for their racehorses.

1. You’re A Nation – This one flowed right to the top of our list for obvious reasons.

2. Pants on Fire – surprisingly, Brian Williams is not affiliated with this horse.

3. Miss Sea Cup – This mare (born in 2008) is sired by Sea of Secrets and her mother is Miss Thirtyfour D, so this name is both punny and funny (in a completely juvenile way, of course!)

Some people eat, drink and sleep football, others become fanatical about TV shows or obsess about cars, but for those of us whose passion is horses, the fanaticism borders on addiction.

1) You own more boots than formal shoes … by a wide margin.

Portland Meadows is a charming track in Portland, Oregon.

The incessant rains of the Pacific Northwest had temporarily let up and the temperature looked like it would hit a balmy 50 degrees. Gray skies and “warm” weather meant one thing! It was a great day for me to head to Portland Meadows for their 2015 Closing Day.

One of the oldest breeds of horses in the United States today lives on the islands off the coast of South Carolina.

The Marsh Tacky was brought to this country by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. They were left on the islands and the isolation there has allowed the breed to survive. The “tacky” in the name Marsh Tacky refers to how common the horse once was in the lowland swamps of South Carolina.

Gulfstream Park, located in Hallandale Beach, Fla. – just north of Miami – is one of the most scenic racetracks in America. The place is also an entertainment destination, offering horse racing, a casino, bars, restaurants and some high-end shopping.

If this weekend is your first trip out here, it’s always good to know where you’d like to spend the day; so I spent this afternoon wandering around the facility to help you get familiar with the scene here at Gulfstream.
