Looking for a destination for your next girls’ getaway? Hot Springs, Ark., may be the perfect choice. With excellent spas, shopping, gardens, dining and racing, this small southern resort offers something for every ladies’ group. Here are options to consider for your itinerary.

Spas

The thermal waters drew the first tourists to Hot Springs. Today, Spa City still lives up to its name. A few of the many possibilities:

If you’re heading to Santa Anita Park for the Santa Anita Derby or another nice weekend of racing, you may want to grab a drink to celebrate after the races, toast your victories, and to rehash the afternoon’s racing action. The good news is that there’s a metro stop right in Arcadia so you won’t have to worry about driving home if you want to indulge a bit after the races!

“It’s amazing how few horse racing movies have been produced,” Jay Cronley lamented in recounting the story behind the making of “Let it Ride,” the film version of his novel “Good Vibes.”

Super Bowl Sunday was especially exciting for Patchen Wilkes Farm in Lexington, Ky., as they welcomed a new white foal during the second half of the game. The filly was the 13th white foal born on the farm since 1995 in one of the cuter statistical anomalies in horse racing.

Of more than 2.1 million Thoroughbreds registered by The Jockey Club since 1803, 179 have been white. That’s just .000085 percent. To have 13 born at one farm in the span of 22 years would be incredibly unlikely. But Patchen Wilkes isn’t just any farm.

It’s Valentine’s Day and love is the air. The roses, the candy and cashing that winning wager at the racetrack. We all love to cash a winning bet and there are plenty of racehorses with names that fit with Feb. 14. Here are a few of them.
