Walk around Pimlico Race Course on Preakness Stakes day and you’ll learn something about Maryland race fans: They love their state colors — and they dress to prove it. 

Everywhere you look, locals will be decked out in the colors of their state flag: yellow, black and red. Similarly, the state flower, the Black-eyed Susan, is well represented on hats, scarves and novelty ties. 

Exercise rider Orlando Cross is all business when he is out on the track riding Kentucky Derby contender State of Honor. He rides with strength and confidence. He wears a poker face traditional on exercise riders of his generation. He is easy to pick out with his striking red jacket, red gloves and a blue helmet covered with black stripes.

The week leading up to and including the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands usually draws the most national media attention to the sport of Thoroughbred racing, and this year will be no different as NBC Sports Group is set to provide 15 ½ hours of television broadcasts, supplemented by extensive coverage from other TV, radio, and online networks.
