As the 40th edition of the Nov. 3-4 World Championships at Santa Anita Park approaches, Hayley Amoss, senior manager of social media and content at Breeders’ Cup, is in the midst of her busiest time of the year.

Elizabeth Merryman knew she had the horse of a lifetime after she bred Caravel and trained her to six victories in her first eight starts. She also knew she was in for the fight of a lifetime after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in early July 2021.

One of the most anticipated events for horse racing fans and bettors is right around the corner, as the countdown is on for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships set for Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, at Santa Anita Park.

For the first time in its history, books by female authors dominate the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award shortlist. Following an independent judging process by a panel of experts in sports and journalism, four of the six are titles written by women, the highest percentage of female finalists since the competition started in 1989.

The countdown to the 40th Breeders’ Cup World Championships will hit the one-week mark on Friday, Oct. 27, as fields for the 14 Breeders’ Cup races continue to come into focus and contenders travel to Santa Anita Park to settle in and become familiar with the surroundings.
