all in Aftercare

Every year when we gear up for the Breeders’ Cup, I always enjoy examining the pedigrees of the contenders. From the blue bloods destined for greatness from birth, to the discount stallions out of otherwise unremarkable mares, we see it all over those two days of racing.

Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) will host an online auction of halters worn by Breeders’ Cup winners and contenders. The All-Star Halter Auction is set to open on Friday, Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. ET and will conclude on Monday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. ET.

The auction is sponsored by LNJ Foxwoods and all proceeds will benefit TCA.

Maintaining Magoo’s eligibility for the 2021 Thoroughbred Makeover through the fall is turning out to be a little harder than I had expected — we cannot go over 15 retraining rides prior to Dec. 1. With him feeling his best again, he continually reminds me how trainable he is, and I am getting extremely excited to get him started on the path to his second career.

Thankfully, fall in the Central Kentucky Thoroughbred industry is busy. While at the sales, I have been having fun keeping an eye on Magoo’s former competition.

A Look Back

Building on the success of the 20th anniversary TRF Blackburn Horse Show hosted in 2019, the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) and the Blackburn Correctional Complex (BCC) will host the TRF Blackburn 2020 Horse Show on Tuesday, Oct. 20. A global audience will tune in to experience a compelling demonstration of horse-handling skills, equine knowledge and the transformational impact of the TRF Second Chances Program.

In this blog post, I would like to introduce everyone to my second 2020 Thoroughbred Makeover mount, Roul the Ice. I had originally bought this guy as a resale, but from the second I saw him step off the trailer, I knew there was a pretty solid chance he’d stay.
