The Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) announced Jan. 3 that applications for the 2023 Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, presented by Thoroughbred Charities of America, are now open for submission. The application period closes at 5 p.m. ET on Jan. 20, 2023.

Just like that the 2022 Thoroughbred Makeover is done and over. My first impression is that I’m tired — like, new level of physical exhaustion tired — but also at the same time I am lifted up, encouraged, and inspired.

I’m not sure I could accurately describe all the emotions and thoughts that I had throughout our week at the Kentucky Horse Park in just one final blog entry but I’m going to give it a shot.

Undefeated four-time grade 1 winner Flightline has been on a steadily upward trajectory since days as a foal growing up on Jane Lyon’s Summer Wind Farm in Central Kentucky.

Prince of New York, piloted by professional trainer Chris Bennings, won the People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Achieve Equine, at the 2022 Thoroughbred Makeover. The achievement comes not only with the recognition of a job well done, but the liberty to choose an equine-related 501(c)3 nonprofit to receive a $2,500 donation sponsored by Achieve Equine.

Happy November and goodbye to another year of the Thoroughbred Makeover! Congratulations to all of my fellow competitors and a big thank you to everyone who made it such a wonderful event. It’s hard to believe we have made it to the other side of this big thing I’ve been anxiously – and I mean, up all night, crazy person, anxiously – awaiting for close to a year.
