Wabbit, an off-track Thoroughbred known as Molinaro Kissing during his racing days, and Jess Phoenix finished 11th at Burghley Horse Trials in Stamford UK, which ran from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.

Burghley Horse Trials are widely regarded as the top event in the sport of Eventing and one of only seven 5-star competitions globally.

WOW!! That is the only word that instantly comes to mind when I think about Goldie and I’s time at the Thoroughbred Makeover this year. It was easily one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, but with a great time comes a year’s worth of emotions. Goldie and I competed in Show Hunters on Wednesday and Show Jumpers on Thursday.

We did it! We made it to and through the Thoroughbred Makeover! Cheers to every single trainer, every single horse, the organizers and management, the fabulous vets, the volunteers, the spectators, the online supporters … EVERYONE who makes this event what it is.

It is known as the happiest horse show on earth, and our experience this year sure set that in stone for me! Since the inception of the Thoroughbred Makeover, I followed it from afar, dreaming that one day I would participate, but never knowing the impact it would have on my life.

A few weeks ago, this was not what I thought I would be writing. I had hoped that I would be saying that Dom and I had made it to Kentucky and were excited to be competing at the Thoroughbred Makeover and achieving my dream of showing at the Kentucky Horse Park. But, unfortunately, that is not the case and Dom and I did not make the trip down to Kentucky.

This past week in Lexington, Ky., the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover took place at the picturesque Kentucky Horse Park, where 403 racehorses competed in various disciplines, showcasing their versatility and readability. Some horses boasted graded accolades and earnings in the six figures for their careers, while others never reached the starting gate.
