A Day in the Life of a Kentucky Derby Horse
After a terrific weekend in horse racing highlighted by Fierceness’ win over Thorpedo Anna in the Aug. 24 DraftKings Travers Stakes, the calendar turns to what hopefully will be a grand finale at Saratoga Race Course over Labor Day weekend. The upstate New York track closes its 2024 meet with six consecutive days of racing starting Wednesday, Aug. 28, and ending on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 2. Marquee races abound, including the Flower Bowl Stakes on Saturday, Aug. 31, the historic Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes on Sunday, Sept. 1, and the Hopeful Stakes showcasing 2-year-old prospects on Labor Day.
Racing from Saratoga will be broadcast on NYRA’s “Saratoga Live” each day airing on either FS2 or FS1. Check the below schedule for channels and times.
Across the country, Del Mar soars into the penultimate weekend of its summer meet with a super Saturday card on Aug. 31, topped by the FanDuel Racing Pacific Classic Stakes, a “Win and You’re In” qualifier for the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic held Nov. 2 at the same track. The Pacific Classic and all other races at Del Mar will be shown live on FanDuel TV with support from an on-site team providing handicapping analysis, news updates, and interviews.
In addition to the racing bonanzas at Saratoga and Del Mar, another elite, albeit short, race meet kicks off Thursday, Aug. 29, when Kentucky Downs opens for its seven-day run spread out over two weeks. The all-turf racecourse situated on the Kentucky-Tennessee border offers the highest daily purses in horse racing, and every one of its contests will be broadcast on FanDuel TV. The network will also show racing from tracks such as Colonial Downs, Gulfstream Park, and Woodbine as per its usual schedule.
Horse racing from tracks around the world is available to subscribers on Racetrack Television Network (RTN), which can be livestreamed on all devices (computer, tablet and smartphone) and on TV via DISH Network, Amazon Fire and Roku.
