Pietro Moran is the son of longtime Woodbine rider David Moran and dreamed as a child of following in his father's footsteps. He made his professional debut in 2023 and was a finalist for the Sovereign Award as Canada's outstanding apprentice in 2024.
Pietro and David made history in 2025 when they became the first son-father tandem to compete in the King's Plate, the first jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown. Pietro guided Mansetti to a dominant win in the race at age 20 to become the youngest rider to win the King's Plate since Jeffrey Fell won the 1976 edition aboard Norcliffe and the third-youngest winner of the “modern era.”
Moran finished the 2025 Woodbine meet second in wins and earnings. He received the Eclipse Award as 2025’s Outstanding Apprentice Jockey at the January 2026 ceremony.
