Timberlake

Timberlake won his maiden in his second career race as a 2-year-old in a seven-furlong race at Ellis Park on July 21, 2023, when he crushed the field by 9 ¼ lengths in an effort that was later flattered when distant runner-up West Saratoga won a stakes race. Timberlake made his subsequent start in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga, where he finished second on Sept. 4.

Timberlake returned for another Grade 1 race in his next outing in the $500,000 Champagne Stakes going one mile at the Belmont at the Big A meet on Oct. 7 and scored an impressive victory. Racing on a sloppy track in an eight-horse field in the Champagne, Timberlake rated in mid-pack early in the race behind a blazing fast pace then raced to the front in the stretch and drew clear to win by 4 ¼ lengths. The Champagne Stakes was a Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series Win and You’re In race, and with his victory, Timberlake earned a spot in the starting gate for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 3 at Santa Anita Park.

Timberlake returned for his 3-year-old debut after 3 1/2 months between races and made a strong impression in his first start of 2024 with a win in the $1.25 million Grade 2 Revel Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Feb. 24. Sent off as the 4-5 favorite in a 12-horse field in the Rebel, Timberlake stalked mid-pack and made an outside move to challenge in the stretch and drew off to a two-length victory under jockey Cristian Torres. The Rebel was a points race on the road to the 2024 Kentucky Derby and with his win he earned 50 more qualifying points to ensure a spot in the Derby starting gate.

Timberlake made his next start as the favorite in the $1.5 million Grade 1 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park n March 30, but disappointed to finish fourth after going for the lead and facing pace pressure throughout from the eventual winner, Muth.

Timberlake is trained by Brad Cox. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Into Mischief out of the Irish mare Pin Up by Lookin At Lucky.
