Stark Contrast finished fourth of six in his debut Aug. 2, 2025, at Del Mar in a six-furlong dirt sprint, but improved greatly in his second outing when switched to turf. He rallied from a stalking spot to win a one-mile maiden race by a length for owner-breeder Amerman Racing and trainer Michael McCarthy.
Stark Contrast finished fourth of six in his debut Aug. 2, 2025, at Del Mar in a six-furlong dirt sprint, but improved greatly in his second outing when switched to turf. He rallied from a stalking spot to win a one-mile maiden race by a length for owner-breeder Amerman Racing and trainer Michael McCarthy.
The Caravaggio colt was moved up to test stakes company in his third start, facing four opponents in the one-mile, Grade 3 Zuma Beach Stakes Oct. 5 at Santa Anita Park. With Kazushi Kimura riding, Stark Contrast stalked the pace into the far turn and finished strong in the stretch for a one-length victory. The Zuma Beach victory incentivized McCarthy to try Stark Contrast in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Oct. 31 at Del Mar and he rewarded his trainer's faith with a game second to heavily favored European invader Gstaad.
Stark Contrast is out of the winning and Grade 2-placed Quality Road mare Catch the Eye.
