Speaking Scout was the winner of the Grade 1 $400,000 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar on Dec. 3, 2022. The victory was the third of Speaking Scout's 3-year-old season, and the fourth of his career. Speaking Scout also won the Hawthorne Derby Presented by BetMakers at Hawthorne on Oct. 1.

The victory in the Hollywood Derby was the first graded stakes win in the career of Speaking Scout. Sent off as the 8-1 fourth choice on the tote board in a field of 10 turf sophomores going 1 1/8 miles, Speaking Scout raced near the back of the pack much of the way before rallying in the stretch. He made the lead in deep stretch and won by three-quarters of a length in a time of 1:49.34 on firm turf.
Speaking Scout is trained by Graham Motion. He as bred in Kentucky by the sire Mr. Speaker out of the mare Miss Scout by Pleasant Tap.
