Ruby Nell

Ruby Nell needed four starts to earn her first career victory. She utilized a stalking trip May 20, 2023, in a one-mile turf race at Santa Anita Park to take charge in the stretch and power clear to a 1 ½-length victory after finishing in the top three in each of her first three races. She followed with an allowance win going 1 1/16 miles at Del Mar before fishing fourth in her stakes debut in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks.

Trainer Richard Mandella tried her next in the Unzip Me Stakes on the 6 ½-furlong downhill turf course at Santa Anita and she secured her first career stakes win by a length under Edwin Maldonado. She stretched back out to a mile for the Grade 3 Autumn Miss Stakes Nov. 5 at Santa Anita Park, opened a commanding early lead, and coasted to a 3 ½-length score.

The filly next moved back up to Grade 1 company in the Matriarch Stakes Dec. 3 at Del Mar and finished a decent fifth before returning to her home track and rolling to a frontrunning 4 ½-length win in the listed Lady of Shamrock Stakes Dec. 31. Mandella shipped Ruby Nell across the country for a tough assignment Jan. 27 in the Grade 2 Pacific World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational Stakes, and she finished third by 1 ¾ lengths.

Back at the familiar confines of Santa Anita Park on March 3, Ruby Nell tallied her fourth stakes win with a gate-to-wire score in the Grade 2, one-mile Buena Vista Stakes.

Ruby Nell is out of the winning Not For Love mare Rich Love, a half-sister (same dam [mother], different sire [father]) to stakes winners Concealed Identity and Peach of a Gal.
