Purchased for $550,000 at the 2019 September Keeneland sale, Roman Centurian finished fourth in his debut at Del Mar on Nov. 22. He finished behind two promising 3-year-olds in that race, Life is Good and Wipe the Slate.
Second time out, at Santa Anita Park on Jan. 3, Roman Centurian came from behind to win a 1 1/16 mile maiden race by 3 3/4 lengths. Juan Hernandez had the winning mount, for trainer Simon Callaghan.

Next out, Roman Centurian held on to finish fourth in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes on Mar. 6, after racing wide. He earned five more Derby points in that race.
