Prince of Monaco

Prince of Monaco was purchased for $950,000 as a yearling by several partners in his large ownership group. The Speightstown colt debuted for trainer Bob Baffert on July 9, 2023, in a five-furlong maiden race at Los Alamitos and won by a dominant eight lengths as the 1-20 favorite.

The colt was then elevated to stakes company on Aug. 13, but he did not go off as the post-time favorite in the Grade 3 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar, instead carrying 9-5 odds behind stablemate Muth, who was backed at 1-2. Prince of Monaco bumped with that foe at the start, sat in third behind early leader Tranche and Muth through the turn of the six-furlong race, and then took over in early stretch to defeat Muth by 4 ¼ lengths. Prince of Monaco earned an impressive 102 Equibase Speed Figure for the effort in only his second career start.

Prince of Monaco next targeted the $300,500 Runhappy Del Mar Futurity on Sept. 10 at Del Mar, and he won the Grade 1 closing-day feature by three-quarters of a length as the 1-20 favorite.

Bred in Kentucky, Prince of Monaco is out of the unraced Medaglia d’Oro mare Rainier, who is a half-sister to stakes winners Laurie’s Rocket and Greeley’s Rocket.
