Pretty Mischievous

Pretty Mischievous won her 2-year-old career debut in a 6 1/2-furlong race at Churchill Downs on Sept. 18, 2022. She added another win in her second start, also at Churchill Downs, when she defeated allowance company by 1 3/4 lengths going seven furlongs on a sloppy track.

Pretty Mischievous suffered her first career debut when third in her first stretchout in the 1 1/16-mile Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes at Churchill Downs on Nov. 26. She did, however, rebound late in 2022 when she squeezed in one more start and was victorious in the $100,000 Untapable Stakes at Fair Grounds on Dec. 26.

Pretty Mischievous made her 3-year-old debut at the Fair Grounds on Feb. 18, 2023 in the Grade 2 $300,000 Rachel Alexandra Stakes going 1 1/16. Facing a heavy 2-5 favorite that day against Hoosier Philly, Pretty Mischievous was sent off as the 8-1 third choice on the tote board in a six-horse field. She pressed the pace all the way and won a stretch battle to prevail by three-quarters of a length over Miracle in a time of 1:45.15 in a race considered to be a major prep for the Longines Kentucky Oaks. It was 8 1/2 lengths back to Hoosier Philly in third.

The bay Into Mischief filly perhaps lost some luster when she was caught in the stretch of the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks Presented by Fasig-Tipton March 25, but she bounced back to earn a career-defining win May 5 at Churchill Downs. Pretty Mischievous tracked the pace from fourth, then seized command and shook free in the stretch run of the $1.25-million Longines Kentucky Oaks before holding off a determined late rally from Gambling Girl to prevail, completing the 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.77.

Pretty Mischievous returned five weeks later for the $500,000 Acorn Stakes Presented by Great Jones Distilling Co. June 9 at Belmont Park and overhauled pacesetter Munnys Gold in early stretch before fending off a challenge from Dorth Vader to prevail by a head. Pretty Mischievous shortened up to seven furlongs in her next start in the $500,000 Grade 1 Test Stakes. She appeared beaten steps from the wire but was officially the winner of the race marred by tragedy on Aug. 5 at Saratoga.
