Pleasant Passage won her career debut in a 1 1/16-mile turf race for 2-year-olds at Saratoga on Aug. 21, 2022, for trainer Shug McGaughey. The win at first asking propelled Pleasant Passage into stakes competition for her second outing, which came in the Grade 2 Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 1.
Pleasant Passage won her career debut in a 1 1/16-mile turf race for 2-year-olds at Saratoga on Aug. 21, 2022, for trainer Shug McGaughey. The win at first asking propelled Pleasant Passage into stakes competition for her second outing, which came in the Grade 2 Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 1. Sent off as the fourth betting choice at 9-1 in a six-horse field Pleasant Passage went right to the lead from the start and held off favorites Free Look and Be Your Best to win the race by 3/4 of a length in a time of 1:45.25 for the 1 1/16 miles run over a yielding turf course. The $200,000 Miss Grillo was a Breeders' Cup Challenge Win and You're In race, and with her victory, Pleasant Passage secured a spot in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Keeneland on Nov. 4.
The next start for Pleasant Passage was a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday, Nov. 4 at Keeneland. In the Juvenile Fillies Turf, Pleasant Passage raced far back in the field and closed very late in the stretch to get up for second, beaten 2 1/2 lengths by Meditate while 2 1/4 lengths clear of the third horse.
