Petulante

Petulante began his career with a win at first asking with a victory in a 3-year-old maiden race on July 22. 2022 at Gulfstream Park. Following a pair of allowance runner-up finishes in his next two outings at Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs, Petulante notched an allowance win in the first start of his 4-year-old season back at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 20, 2023.

Petulante left the state of Florida for the first time for his next race in his fifth career start, which was an allowance race at Churchill Downs on the Kentucky Derby undercard on May 6. He prevailed over a 12-horse field that day from post 12, winning a one-mile dirt race by 1 /2 lengths in a time of 1:34.85.

With two wins in two starts to begin his 4-year-old campaign, Petulante made his stakes debut in his following race in the Grade 3 $150,000 Salvator Mile Stakes at Monmouth Park on June 17. Sent off as thr 9-5 favorite on the tote board in a field of 10 horses in the Salvator Mile, Petulante backed off the early pace and stalked the leaders close-up until the stretch where he moved past rivals on the outside to win by a length in a time of 1:36.88.

Petulante is trained by Victor Barboza Jr. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Arrogate out of the mare Auntjenn by Uncle Mo.
