Niche

Niche, a Florida-bred Yaupon filly, raced once as a 2-year-old in 2025 on dirt and three times in early 2026 on turf without success. Switched back to dirt by trainer Rob Atras in April, she responded with a 1 ¼-length victory sprinting at Laurel Park, and then backed that up with a three-length win in an allowance at Aqueduct in May.

The bay filly then tried an all-weather surface at Presque Isle Downs and made her stakes debut in the Lady Erie Stakes July 26. She set the early pace, opened up a two-length lead entering the stretch, but could not hold on and finished second by 1 ¾ lengths. That set Niche up for a breakthrough performance when switched back to dirt in the seven-furlong, Grade 2 Charles Towns Oaks Aug. 28 at Charles Town. Jockey Dylan Davis sent Niche to the early lead and the filly gamely responded to a challenge by odds-on favorite and local horse At a Premium to prevail by a half-length in the $750,000 stakes.

Niche is out of the Quiet American mare Stormbeforethecalm and is a half-sister to stakes winners Proven Strategies and Corona Bolt.
