Napoleon Solo

Napoleon Solo absolutely swamped the competition in his career debut Aug. 8, 2025, at Saratoga Race Course, pressing a fast pace and powering to a 5 ¼-length victory under Joel Rosario for trainer Chad Summers.

He prepped for the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes with a series of three-straight bullet workouts (the fastest at that distance on the day) and dominated again in his stakes debut. Napoleon Solo set a fast pace through an opening quarter-mile in :22.53 and a half-mile in :44.24 and surged well clear in the stretch en route to a 6 ½-length runaway under Rosario that punched his ticket to the FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Presented by TAA Oct. 31 at Del Mar. He also earned 10 qualifying points toward the 2026 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve by completing the one-mile race in 1:34.57.

Napoleon Solo made his 3-year-old debut on Feb. 28, 2026, in the Grade 2 Coolmore Fountain of Youth Stakes going 1 1/16 miles at Gulfstream Park. He was sent off at the 3.40-1 third choice on the tote board in a field of nine and settled for fifth.

Napoleon Solo disappointed again in his second start of his 3-year-old season when he finished fifth at 3.57-1 odds in a 12-horse field in the Grade 2 $750,000 Wood Memorial Stakes going 1 1/8 miles at Aqueduct on April 4.

Napoleon Solo rebounded into Grade 1 winning form when he was victorious in the the 2026 Preakness Stakes in the second jewel of the Triple Crown. Napoleon Solo did not participate in the Kentucky Derby but reappeared back in his best form in the Preakness with Paco Lopez aboard for trainer Chad Summers. Run at 1 3/16 miles at Laurel Park as Pimlico was being renovated, Napoleon Solo raced up close to the pace throughout and had the best closing kick in the stretch to top the full 14-horse field by a winning margin of 1 1/4 lengths in a time of 1:58.69.

The next target for Napoleon Solo following the Preakness win was the $1 million Grade 1 Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park on July 18. Napoleon Solo set a clear pace for much of the race in the 1 1/8-mile Haskell and fought gamely through a stretch battle with eventual winner Baby Vino but settled for second by a half a length.

Napoleon Solo's next race came in the "Midsummer Derby," the Grade 1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga where he finally faced off against Kentucky Derby first- and second-place finishers Golden Tempo and and Renegade. Napoleon Solo beat the Derby 1-2 finishers, but once again had to settle for second place, this time behind upset winner Leading Change August 29 at Saratoga.

Napoleon Solo is named for a fiction character from the 1960s spy series TV show and 2015 movie “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”
