Independence Hall

Independence Hall, a 2-year-old Constitution colt owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Twin Creeks Racing Stable, Kathleen Verratti, and Robert Verratti, won his career debut at Parx Racing on Sept. 21, 2019, by 4 ¾ lengths.

Trainer Mike Trombetta then shipped the colt to Aqueduct for the Grade 3 Nashua Stakes on Nov. 3. Sent off at 9.60-1 odds, the colt drew clear at the top of the stretch and dominated the one-mile race, winning by 12 ¼ lengths. His dominance continued in the Jerome Stakes on Jan. 1, where he romped to an easy victory after taking command on the turn for home and earned 10 points toward a place in the Kentucky Derby starting gate.

Independence Hall next shipped to Tampa Bay Downs for the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes and made a bold move on the far turn to take the lead in early stretch, but he could not hold off the late rally of Sole Volante.

Later in his 3-year-old season, Independence Hall was moved to the west coast stable of Mike McCarthy. He began his 4-year-old season with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 23. He was then fourth in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap on Mar. 6 and third in the Grade 2 Californian Stakes on Apr. 17.

Late in his 4-year-old season, Independence Hall broke through with a 7 1/4-length win in the Grade 2 Hagyard Fayette Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 30. That victory marked his first win in an open graded stakes race.
