Hot Peppers, a Florida-bred Khozan filly, finished second by a neck in her debut on October 2021 at Gulfstream Park but then returned at age 3 in 2022 and won three in a row at the South Florida track for trainer Ronald Spatz. She shipped to Tampa Bay Downs and finished seventh in a seven-furlong stakes for Florida-breds after a rough trip and then was sent north to trainer Rudy Rodriguez in New York.

The filly adapted well to her new surroundings, romping by 6 ¾ lengths under Luis Saez in the Jersey Girl Stakes at Belmont Park on June 12. Saez was aboard again in her next start, the Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes at Belmont on July 9. Hot Peppers contested a fast early pace and had enough in reserve to hold off Half Is Enough by three quarters of a length in a stretch duel to pick up her first graded stakes win. She followed with a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Longines Test Stakes Aug. 6 at Saratoga Race Course before a fourth in the Grade 2 Prioress Stakes Sept. 2.
