Hot and Sultry was a two-time winner during her 3-year-old campaign in 2022 and then began 2023 in style with a victory at Oaklawn in her first starter as a 4-year-old in the American Beauty Stakes on Jan. 21, 2023. She then rattled off a string of respectable defeats in graded stakes record for her remaining starts in the first half of 2023, with a fourth in the Grade 2 Azeri Stakes ay Oaklawn, a third in the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn, and a fourth in the Grade 1 Derby City Distaff at Churchill Downs.

Hot and Sultry took six months between races following the Derby City Distaff, but then made a big splash upon her return to the races when she won big in the Grade 3 $300,000 Chilukki Stakes at one mile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 18. Sent off as the 2.10-1 favorite in a field of eight fillies and mares in the Chilukki, Hot and Sultry went right to the front and extended the lead throughout to win by eight lengths on the wire in a race that was never in doubt.
Hot and Sultry is trained by Norm Casse. She was bred in Kentucky by the sire Speightster out of the mare Hot Water by Medaglia d'Oro.
