Hopper, a Declaration of War colt owned by Lanni Bloodstock, Madaket Stables and SF Racing, finished sixth in his debut for trainer Bob Baffert in a six-furlong turf race Feb. 25, 2022, at Santa Anita Park.
Switched to trainer Sean McCarthy, Hopper made his second start on dirt running seven furlongs at Santa Anita, and he won impressively by 2 ¼ lengths.

Switched to trainer Sean McCarthy, Hopper made his second start on dirt running seven furlongs at Santa Anita, and he won impressively by 2 ¼ lengths.
The colt next contested the Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes at Santa Anita on June 11, and took the lead from the outset under Abel Cedillo. He was never threatened and won the 1 1/16-mile Affirmed by 5 ¼ lengths over stablemate and favorite High Connection.
Back with trainer Bob Baffert for his 4-year-old campaign in 2023, Hopper made his next start on Jan. 28, 2023, with a second-place finish in the San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita, and then subsequently finished fourth in a Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap on March 4.
Hopper returned to the winner's circle when shipped to Oaklawn Park for the running of the Grade 3 $400,000 Oaklawn Mile on April 1. Sent off as the 7-5 second choice on the tote board in a field of seven, Hopper pressed the pace, battled the leader in the stretch, and prevailed by 1 3/4 lengths in a time of 1:37.63.
Hopper is out of the millionaire globetrotting mare Irridescence, a champion in her native South Africa.
