Hejazi, a $3.55 million purchase as a 2-year-old at auction, ran second in each of his first two starts, including a runner-up finish to future graded stakes winner Speed Boat Beach. Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert next tested him as a maiden against stakes competition and he finished third in the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes in October 2022 in his final race as a juvenile.

The Bernardini colt earned his first career win in his 3-year-old debut, setting the pace in a 1 ½-length victory Jan. 15, 2023, at Santa Anita Park. Hejazi then was transferred to trainer Tim Yakteen to prepare for the Kentucky Derby because Baffert is serving a two-year suspension at Churchill Downs following Medina Spirit’s disqualification for a medication violation in the 2021 Kentucky Derby.
In his first start for Yakteen, Hejazi finished fourth in the $400,000 San Felipe Stakes March 4 at Santa Anita Park.
Hejazi is out of the winning Medaglia d’Oro mare G Note, a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Mineralogist.
