Happy American

Happy American won his maiden race in his third career start as a 3-year-old going 1 1/4 miles at Churchill Downs on April 27, 2021.  He added an allowance victory for his second career win going 1 1/8 miles on the Churchill main track on Oct. 2, and then continued to solidify his distance credentials in the following race on Nov. 6 with yet another Churchill Downs 1 1/4-mile victory on the main track. He ended 2021 with a narrow nose loss in his stakes debut in the $100,000 Tenacious Stakes at Fair Grounds on Dec. 26, 2021.

It took a year for Happy American to find the winner's circle once again, but did so right back at the Fair Grounds in the 2022 running of the Tenacious Stakes on Dec. 26,  when he got revenge for his narrow 2021 defeat in the same race by winning off by 2 3/4 lengths for his first career stakes win.

Happy American subsequently won his first career graded stakes race in his next start which was the first race of his 5-year-old campaign on Jan. 21, 2023. Happy American topped a seven-horse field to win the Grade 3 $150,000 Louisiana Stakes at Fair Grounds. He ran the 1 1/16 miles in a winning time of 1:45.33 to win by a neck.

Happy American is trained by Neil Pessin. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Runhappy out of the mare Queen of America by Quiet American.
