Going Global (IRE)

Going Global, an Irish-bred Mehmas filly, raced three times without a victory in her native country before winning a race at Dundalk in November 2020. She shipped to the U.S. and made her debut for trainer Phil D’Amato in the Grade 3 Sweet Life Stakes at Santa Anita Park on Valentine’s Day 2021, and surged through the stretch of the six-furlong turf sprint to collar pacesetter Five Pics Please and win by a half-length.

Going Global earned her third stakes win in a row on April 3, winning the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes. As usual, she came from off the pace to take charge late and win going away. She covered 1 1/8 miles on a firm turf course in 1:48.50 under jockey Flavien Prat.

She added a fourth stakes win to her record on May 22, taking the Grade 3 Honeymoon Stakes impressively. Prat kept her on the inside most of the way, then angled her out into the two-path and kicked away down the stretch to win handily. The final time for 1 1/8 miles was 1:46.37.

Going Global suffered her first defeat of her 3-year-old year on July 24, when she was second in the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes at Del Mar. Although she closed well up the inside, she finished second to Madone. She bounced back with a win in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks on Aug. 21, where she stormed through off a slow pace to win impressively. 

After a few months off, Going Global returned to the races in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes Presented by PNC at Del Mar on Nov. 6. She rated off the pace and closed strongly down the track for the victory. 

Going Global made her 2022 debut in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes at Santa Anita Park on April 9. As the odds-on favorite, she rated off the pace and kicked clear for a 1 3/4-length victory. After a third-place finish as the 4-5 favorite in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes May 30 at Santa Anita Park, Going Global proved much the best in winning the $250,000 Yellow Ribbon Stakes by three lengths Aug. 13 at Del Mar. She followed with a runner-up finish in the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes Sept. 10 at Del Mar.

Going Global's next start came in the Grade 2 $200,000 Goldikova Stakes at Santa Anita on Oct. 29. Sent off as the heavy .30-1 favorite in a field of six horses, Going Global rated just off the pace and took over late on the turn and spurted clear in the stretch to earn the victory. She held on to win by 1 1/2 lengths over runner-up England's Rose and ran the mile on the turf in a time of 1:33.85.
