Ethical Diamond (IRE)

Ethical Diamond began his career in his native Ireland as a 3-year-old in 2023 and won his maiden in his third lifetime start at Limerick on June 24, 2023. Following that win he spent the year 2024 and much of the year 2025 alternating between flat turf races and steeplechase jump races in England and Ireland while racing for the prominent steeplechase trainer William Mullins. He earned his second career win in Feb. 2025 in a jump race in England but just two races later he was converted back into a competitor in flat races in summer of 2025.

Ethical Diamond won a $148,000 handicap race at Ascot on June 20, 2025, when he topped an 18-horse field by 2 lengths in a 1 1/2-mile race. He then validated that career-best form in his following race at York in a $676,400 Stakes race at York going 1 3/4 miles with another strong win, this time over a 22-horse field. Based on the strength of those back-to-back wins, the connections decided to ship him to the U.S. for the first time and take a shot at the Grade 1 level in the Breeders' Cup Nov. 1 at Del Mar.

Ethical Diamond drew post 14 in a 14-horse field for the $5 million Longines Breeders' Cup and got out of the starting gate slowly and raced at or near the rear of the field for much of the race. He began to make his move on the final turn and was still tenth at the top of the stretch before launching a furious rally through the lane. He surged to the lead in deep stretch and blew past two-time Breeders' Cup Turf champion Rebel's Romance to post the upset by a winning margin of 1 1/4 lengths. Ethical Diamond was sent off as a 27.7-1 longshot and paid $57.40 to win.
