Dicey Mo Chara (GB)

Dicey Mo Chara was a consistent stakes performer throughout the year 2022 and finally got his first stakes victory in the late stages of the year when he won the Grade 2 $200,000 San Gabriel Stakes on opening day at Santa Anita, Dec. 26.

Dicey Mo Chara earned in-the-money finishes in several southern California turf stakes races in 2022 at distances ranging from 1 1/8 miles to 1 1/2 miles, including a second in the San Luis Rey on March 12 at Santa Anita, a third in the Del Mar Handicap on Sept. 3, and a second by a neck in the Grade 2 John Henry Turf Cup on Oct. 1 at Santa Anita.

The San Gabriel Stakes was run at a distance of 1 1/8 miles on the turf, which is shorter than most of Dicey Mo Chara's other outings which were mostly at 1 1/4 miles, 1 3/8 miles, or 1 1/2 miles. Dicey Mo Chara got over the hump for his first career stakes victory in the San Gabriel. He sat back in the rear half of the field and rallied in the stretch to win by a half a length in a time of 1:47.78. Sent off as the 7-2 third choice on the tote board under Juan Hernandez, he paid $9.60 to win. 

Dicey Mo Chara is trained by Leonard Powell. He was bred in Great Britain by the sire Adaay out of the mare Leonica by Lion Cavern.
