Decorated Invader

Decorated Invader, a Declaration of War colt owned by West Point Thoroughbreds, William Freeman and William Sandbrook, finished a fast-closing second in his career debut at Saratoga on July 13, 2019. He graduated in his next start at the Spa, dominating a 1 1/16-mile turf race by 1 ¾ lengths Aug. 10.

In his next start, trainer Christophe Clement shipped Decorated Invader to Woodbine for the Grade 1 Summer Stakes on Sept. 15, and the colt earned an automatic berth to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf with a 1 ¾-length win. He closed out his 2-year-old season with a fourth-place finish in the Juvenile Turf.

Returning from a layoff of more than 4 1/2 months, Decorated Invader closed from off the pace to win the one-mile Cutler Bay Stakes at Gulfstream Park March 28 in his 3-year-old bow. He followed with a victory by 4 3/4 lengths as the 3-5 favorite in the Grade 2 Pennine Ridge Stakes June 20 at Belmont Park.

Decorated Invader extended his winning streak to three by overcoming trouble at the start of the Grade 2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths as the 2-5 favorite July 18 at Saratoga.

West Point purchased the colt for $200,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September yearling sale. Decorated Invader is out of the winning Arch mare Gamely Girl and is a close relation to notable sire Stormy Atlantic.

William Sandbrook owns the largest share in Decorated Invader and is the CEO of U.S. Concrete, a publicly-traded company on the NASDAQ exchange. He and West Point founder Terry Finley both graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. West Point Thoroughbreds is the largest Thoroughbred partnership company in the world. The stable celebrated its 100th stakes win in February 2018. West Point was a minority owner of the 2017 Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming and also campaigned 2014 Kentucky Derby runner-up Commanding Curve.
