City Boy finished second in his career debut but won his second start by a length in front-running fashion May 20, 2017 in a turf sprint at Woodbine. The City Zip gelding ran second in an allowance race and then finished seventh in his stakes debut in the Charley Barley Stakes in July. He returned to allowance company and posted a win, two seconds, and one third in his final five starts in 2017.

He added another second and a third in allowances races before a breakthrough win in the Grade 2 Nearctic Stakes Oct. 12 at Woodbine. City Boy stalked the pace from third in the Nearctic and then outfinished runner-up Reconfigure and third-place finisher Richiesinthehouse to win by a head in a thrilling blanket finish for his first stakes victory.
Stakes winner and stakes producer Princess Ruckus, by Bold Ruckus, is the dam (mother) of City Boy. Princess Ruckus is a half-sister to Canadian champion sprinter and sire Langfuhr.
