Carmel Road, a 2-year-old colt trained by Bob Baffert, won his maiden race at Del Mar by 8 ¾ lengths on Aug. 26, 2022. Carmel Road won when stretched out to a mile for the first time in his second lifetime start after finishing third in his career debut in a five-furlong race at Del Mar on Aug. 6. Carmel Road showed a new dimension of early speed in his first race around two turns and went wire-to-wire with Mike Smith aboard.
