Buetane

Buetane flashed early speed in his career debut when pressing the pace before taking control and powering away to a 3 ½-length victory Aug. 3, 2025, at Del Mar for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.

Baffert shipped the Tiz the Law colt to New York to make his stakes debut in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga, where he finished a distant second to eventual champion 2-year-old male Ted Noffey.

Buetane made his first start as a 3-year-old in the seven-furlong San Vicente Stakes, a Grade 2 race Jan. 10, 2016, at Santa Anita Park, and rallied to finish second by two lengths to So Happy.

He stretched out to a 1 1/16 miles in the $1 million Southwest Stakes Feb. 6 at Oaklawn Park and was right in the mix entering the stretch, but he could not hold off deep closer Silent Tactic and finished behind both him and runner-up Soldier N Diplomat. Buetane banked six Kentucky Derby qualifying points for the third-place finish.

A $1.15-million purchase as a yearling at auction, Buetane was produced by the winning Forestry mare Taboo, who is the dam (mother) of stakes winner Let My People Go.
