Army Wife

Since shifting from turf to the main track in her first start, Army Wife improved significantly with two wins, one second, and a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Gazelle Stakes in four races on the main track through May 2021.

Her Equibase Speed Figures rose by 10-20 points on the dirt compared with the numbers she had posted on the grass, and while she was 6 ½ lengths behind winner Search Results in in the Gazelle, she did encounter some traffic in her stakes debut and held her own in a major class test. That form was flattered when Search Results finished a close second in the Grade 1 Longines Kentucky Oaks on April 30.

Army Wife put it all together in her eighth career start, saving ground under Joel Rosario after breaking from the inside post position and then powering clear in upper stretch to take the Grade 2 George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes by 2 ¾ lengths on May 14 at Pimlico. She followed that race up with a 3 3/4-length win in the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks at Prairie Meadows on July 2.

Army Wife finished no better than third in her final three starts of her 3-year-old season. She earned her first win of her 4-year-old season on June 25, 2022, when she won the Lady Jacqueline Stakes at Thistledown by three-quarters of a length over Crazy Beautiful. 

A Declaration of War filly owned by Three Diamonds Farm, Army Wife is out of the winning Arch mare Tread and from the family of Grade 1 winner Furiously and Grade 2 winners Scherzinger and Kitten’s Roar.
