American Power won a maiden claiming race in his career debut and lone start as a 2-year-old on Nov. 14, 2017, at Gulfstream Park West. He made 21 starts over the next two season while racing mostly in allowance, starter allowance, and claiming races with a pair of stakes attempts sprinkled in. American Power posted six wins and five seconds in 2018 and 2019 and ran fourth in the Grade 1 Vosburgh Invitational Stakes.

American Power’s 2020 campaign got off to a bit of a slow start as he was winless in his first four races, the Power Broker horse closed his 5-year-old campaign with back-to-back wins. American Power won a one-mile claiming race by a head on a sloppy track at Belmont Park in October before posting a front-running 3 ¼-length romp in a December allowance-optional claiming race going seven furlongs at Aqueduct.
Returning to stakes competition for his 6-year-old bow, American Power engaged in a tenacious stretch-long battle with Pete’s Play Call in the stretch of the Grade 3 Toboggan Stakes Jan. 30 at Aqueduct before edging away in deep stretch to post a breakthrough win.
