Super Stock won his first start in a stakes race, taking the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity at Lone Star Park by 3 1/2 lengths on Aug. 11, 2020. Jockey Keith Asmussen, riding for his father, trainer Steve Asmussen, put his mount on the lead early on and drew clear in the stretch, covering 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:04.95.
Later in the season, Super Stock raced well in graded stakes company. He finished third in both the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes Presented by Ford at Churchill Downs and the Grade 1 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland.

Super Stock made his 3-year-old debut in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Mar. 14. He finished fourth, earning five points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve. In his next start, the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby on Apr. 10, he pulled off a shocking 12.20-1 victory with Ricardo Santana Jr. in the irons, rating off a fast pace and wearing down the early leaders in the stretch. The 100 qualifying points he earned in that race ensured him a spot in the Derby starting gate.
