E. Gabrielle Kuenzli (Gabi), Ph.D., is a bilingual (Spanish-English) professor of Latin American history at the University of South Carolina. Kuenzli has lived over five years in Latin America. She also teaches and researches on Latino history and the connection between U.S. Latino and Latin American history with a specialization in sports and specifically Thoroughbred racing. Kuenzli has a manuscript under contract on Latinos in horse racing and the history of horse racing in Latin America, entitled “Setting the Record,” she has published in the magazine BloodHorse, she is a photographer, and she is co-curating the first exhibit on Latinos in horseracing entitled Raíces: The Making of Latino Legacies in Thoroughbred Racing. That exhibit opened October 2025 at Keeneland Library and Archive in Lexington, Ky. The picture is of Gabi and her favorite champion mare, Letruska.
