‘There’s No Bigger, Better Stage Than This’: A Great Breeders’ Cup Friday for Medallion Racing

11.01.2025

For Medallion Racing, the racing partnership division of Kentucky’s Taylor Made Farm, Future Stars Friday at the 2025 Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar could not have gone much better. Medallion, managed by Phillip Shelton, had finished second in 2023 and 2024 and were represented in the very first race of the 2025 World Championships by talented 2-year-old filly Cy Fair in the Juvenile Turf Sprint.

“If you don’t get nervous, you don’t get those butterflies in your stomach, this is the wrong game for you,” Shelton said. Cy Fair turned nervous anticipation into excitement with a three-quarter-length victory, the first Breeders’ Cup score for the Medallion partnership. Two races later, Irish-bred filly Balantina gave Medallion a second Breeders’ Cup win as co-owner by taking the John Deere Juvenile Fillies Turf.
