Inspiring 5-year-old Mila Rose spent Black-Eyed Susan Stakes day at Pimlico Race Course May 16 with her family to watch the talented filly named in her honor, chestnut 3-year-old filly Mila Rose, compete in the Miss Preakness Stakes.
Mila Rose’s mother, Lexi Friedewald, was contacted by West Point Thoroughbreds with the idea of naming a racehorse in honor of her child, who was born with Aicardi syndrome and scoliosis. Mila Rose is blind in her left eye and suffers from seizures, but Lexi describes her as a “miracle” and she continues to amaze everyone around her.
In the Miss Preakness Stakes, Mila Rose rallied to finish fifth of 11 as the Friedewalds cheered her home, win or lose, and celebrated a special girl with an unforgettable day at the racetrack.
