A nine-year tour with Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas
prepared Dominguez for running his own stable. He took out his
license in 1990 and saddled his first winners the next year. His
business expanded in 2003 when he saddled 108 winners and cracked
the $1 million mark in purse earnings for the first time. The El
Paso, Texas, native has become one of the top trainers in the
Southwest. He has been the leading trainer at Zia Park the last
three seasons, and has won two of the last three training titles at

WinStar Derby (now the Sunland Derby) but he grabbed a quarter, a
wound caused by a horse stepping on itself, in the race, and was
unable to go to the Kentucky Derby. Rodriguez enjoyed a career year
in 2011 when he set personal bests with 136 victories and $2.8
million in purse earnings.
