After a four-month delay, the 2020 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve will be held Sept. 5 at Churchill Downs as the second leg of an unprecedented Triple Crown that was rearranged due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Recalling the years 1994 to 1996 in North American horse racing will always bring to mind memories of one of the most popular Thoroughbreds in the sport’s history, who captivated fans with a 16-race winning streak that all started with a surface switch.

The Sword Dancer Stakes, a Grade 1 race contested over 1 ½ miles on the turf for horses age 4 and older, will be contested on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course.

Here are some facts to know about the race’s history:

Long history: The Sword Dancer was contested for the first time in 1975.

For years, the Sword Dancer Stakes at Saratoga Race Course had to battle it out for the best older turf horses with the Arlington Million Stakes. With the Arlington Million cancelled this year, Saturday's Grade 1 Sword Dancer looms as the best option for East Coast turfers.
