A champion in Mexico, St. George Stable's Letruska now finds herself contending—if not leading—for a championship this year as North America's outstanding older dirt female.
Trainer Roger Attfield made a lasting impression when he spoke during his induction into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame at Saratoga Springs, N.Y. in 2012. He used the occasion to make a heartfelt plea in behalf of the sport that means everything to him.
“The best horse should be able to win,” he told those in attendance. “We’ve got to clean up some of the stuff going on out there and get rid of the rubbish. You only need two or three bad apples to spoil the basket.”
The road to the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic heats up this Saturday, with the 40th running of the Grade 2 Stephen Foster Stakes at Churchill Downs. The race carries a purse of $600,000 and will be run at 1 ⅛ miles on dirt.
Breeders’ Cup announced Wednesday plans to utilize 100 percent of seated capacity at Del Mar for the 2021 Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Nov. 5-6.
